One impossible step at a time

I hope my readers feel the weight of facing impossible choices through the lens of my characters.

About

About Me

I'm Kiara Ward, a Florida-based writer who's been crafting novels for nearly two decades. I am dedicated to deep character work, immersive worldbuilding, and thematic payoffs that hit hard.

Eighteen years ago I wrote a military fantasy short story that was dismissed by a teacher and crushed my soul. Thanks Mrs. Watson — I am publishing anyway.

I love building unique settings, rich lore, and character-driven dialogue. Consistent updates and a deep backlog guaranteed.

The work

What I'm Building

Scorched lands (The Empty Hand), stars that cry magic (Weeping Hour), underground caverns (Arithomancer) — and many other unique worlds to explore.

Meet characters like “the human equivalent of a woodchipper” (Benjera Venn — The Stolen Dimension), “the personality of an unsanitized stripper pole” (Wade Rhoads — Harmony Series), and “candied cyanide” (Elzbeth Hanning — Frail Stitches).

The long game: launch the full trilogies as the gateway to a larger Flux multiverse, and transition to full-time writing.

Tears of Ash

Ruia Tithe.

Gothic horror romance

The city of Occirus floats by the grace of unknowable deities. Lie. The Tenths of the temple uphold the sacred truths of the Writ of Gods. Lie. The heretic with monsters tattooed into his skin cannot be trusted. Lie.

The funeral pyre for Ruia Tithe’s mother makes everything feel wrong. Cages for the dead. Creatures bound to vessels made of clay. A temple closed to everyone but the Tenths.

When a wild man spouting blasphemy tells her she’s surrounded by rot, Ruia doesn’t listen. She tries to recite the prayers without feeling hollow. She tries to be like the rest of her family. Obedient and holy.

But when a mistake unveils the rot she’s shut her eyes to, her fears are met with guilt, and her pleas to her family are unanswered. The tempting words of Tython Nedaria threaten to rip Ruia from her life of isolation into a world where every revelation changes her.

Is she being liberated or damned? Would knowing change what she does next?

You are like a flower on a grave,” the heretic told her as he wiped away her tears.

Lostwalker

A Stolen Dimension trilogy

The series

A burnt-out scientist. A relentless Runner. A death god waking.

Dragged from Earth into a living maze where monsters hunt and faith is law, Dr. Noa Blake survives the only way she knows how: logic, math, and ruthless pragmatism. Saving a drowning stranger was instinct — but magic has a cost.

Benjera Venn should turn her in. Her magic is illegal. Her existence brings danger. His job demands he put her to death. But on the altar of devotion he gives her every borrowed breath.

In a dimension that steals people and offers no mercy, Noa must decide what she's willing to become to survive. The Lostwalker.

A world where power is earned through pain and every choice has a cost.

The Empty Hand

The Empty Hand — cover art.

Standalone

Soren Faide had one plan: tend his lord's gardens, grow old quietly, and forget he ever knew magic.

But when the youngest heir of the Calvo family discovers who he once was, Soren is cornered into giving a single lesson to a hopeless, curious boy. It should mean nothing. One afternoon's mistake.

Yet the stars are shifting, the astronomers whisper of evacuation, and the celestial moths that warm the seas are flying off course. Old instincts stir, and Soren begins to wonder if teaching the four elements might awaken something far greater.

Because Soren can't cast anymore. …Can he?
